Mini Tangerine ~ Oh So Sweet!~

Image Hosted by PicturePush - Photo Sharing

We found this mini tangerine sold in mass stocks in the market in Suzhou, and looking so fresh and juicy compared to the dried up versions we get around here sometimes.

Nicknamed the 'Emperor lime' (direct translation from Chinese), these little goodies is an adorable visual treat and attracts no less 'ooh aah' from buyers at the market; especially tourists.
This fruit is not to be dismissed for its size as it packs a punch of sweetness and nutrition in its contents.

Typically we only get this fruit as it approaches the new spring; which is the lunar New Year season as it is harvested during then. The fruit is synonymous in the auspicious golden color to usher in the new spring, joining the other fruits with the likes of mandarin oranges, pomelo, apples, etc.

This to me, is like a mini version of the mandarin orange as it is equally packed with saccharine and Vitamin C. It is healthy and the best part is that it is easy to peel and consume; a plus for people who loves fruits but yet lazy to do the job of peeling.

If you are ever in China, don't forget to look out for this fruit; especially when it's in season. It's not too expensive, and yet, you will enjoy it that you will go back for more.

Custard Apple

Image Hosted by PicturePush - Photo Sharing

This may not be my first post on this unique fruit; but I simply cannot resist posting on it again as I enjoyed the taste of this fruit from our homegrown tree at home.
My parents enjoyed gardening; and I think it was passed down from my paternal grandmother who loved to grow vegetables, fruits and flowers.
However, the biggest limitation was the scarcity of land in the urban areas.

This custard apple tree outside my house had been there for a while now, and usually even the birds are interested in the fruit as soon as they are ripe.
If we are not watchful enough, the birds would enjoy the harvest after our hard work.

Mummy and Daddy would wrap the fruits when they are almost ripe; or just pluck it from the tree to avoid insects or birds' attacks! :p

As I stay away from home, I will only get to enjoy this fruit once in a while and thankfully, I am always the one who gets the privilege to enjoy the fruit whenever I am home ;)

I LOVE this locally grown fruit; it's probably one of the local fruits that I like!

The fruit is sweet and custard-like in taste; but beware of the endless number of seeds in this fruit!

It is the nature of the amount of seeds which turn most eager foodies away from this fruit, but I still enjoyed it so much.

Do you have this at home? :)

My LOVE...

I had a surprise the other day; I got this box of delights, and lo behold, my LOVE!

No, it's not really that romantic in that sense of manner, but rather romantic in my own definition!

I have always loved this fruit; this is the top favorite fruit on my list of favorite fruits, and I have such a picky taste that I adore those which came from USA or Australia. (in preferred order)
Yeah, they MUST come from these two places, and I just LOVE LOVE them!

BIG and juicy, these strawberries just take my breath away (or speech)

I could live on these forever; throw in a couple of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, cherries, kiwis, peaches...(now, I am reciting the list of my favorite fruits), and I am hooked!

Juicy side of the Queen of Fruits

On one of those rare occasions where my mummy buys pineapples (it IS really rare), we get to enjoy the wonders of this Queen of the Fruits =D

Image Hosted by PicturePush - Photo Sharing
I love pineapples; seriously....I just realized that most of my favorite fruits have that citrusy scent/taste and of course, the sourish side of it as well =P

This is ONE yellow yellow pineapple!

I am proud that our country is one of the main producers in the world for this fruit; and there are so many benefits from this fruit as well.
Of course, I am sure we have heard of the acidity level of this fruit and how we were told not to take it on a empty stomach, etc.
However, all the bad aside, this is one delicious and appetizing fruit and if you get the Bali version or the crystal version, Yummylicious!

I do not like the KING of Fruits...NO NO....I could run a mile away if I were to spot it within the second I spot it...make that micro/nano second...

But this, I like...Hail the Queen of Fruits =D

Away for a week and a fruit for you~~

I am currently back in the Mud Coast for a week+; for meetings and well, short vacation with own family (self-declared) =)

During this week, updates on my blog will be really slow...I must inform ahead this round.
Work's really tough..and everything's moving really quickly, and of course, I need to spend quality time with the family.

I noticed that the Internet connection is really bad as well; which is really a huge no-no for uploading my pics =(

Anyway, I have a lot of posts waiting for me to write on and publish but I just haven't really gotten around to uploading the pics =(

I really apologize to those who have been following this humble blog of mine.

Well, for a teaser (hopefully I can steal more time to blog), here's a pic of a unique fruit which I've recently been introduced to and have fallen in love with...only to find out that it's also another seasonal and imported fruit.

The price's not cheap...and it tastes just like the black plum (California ones are my favorites!), except that it's in a fairer color.
It even had the same fragrant scent; except this one is somehow more pleasant in the scent. It had that sweet scent; and it's supposed to be really, really sweet (well, duh, what's the name nectarine for, right?)

I love these USA nectarines...*yumm*

This is so going into my list of favorite fruits from now on; and again, am I born in the wrong country for compiling a list of all imported fruits for my favourites and not really in favor of all the local breds?

Green or Golden Kiwi?

Just taking a break from the normal food posts; and decided to talk about something healthy.

I love fruits and vegetables; almost ALL fruits and vegetables are on my pickyeater's list (although I can't deny there is also a list of them which are not, but we will talk about those later)

There is a list of fruits which are assorted in their colors, or varied in their texture but they came from the same family.
The following is extracted from the helpful Wikipedia:
Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) is a fruit. It has an oval shape, and is green on the inside with small black seeds that are edible. The kiwi has furry brown skin that is edible but is usually removed. The skin is relatively thin. The kiwi is native to South China.

The fruit was named in 1959 after the kiwi, a bird and symbol of New Zealand. Before that, its English name was Chinese gooseberry.

The kiwifruit is healthy and contains many vitamins and minerals, like vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Kiwis have more vitamin C than an equivalent amount of orange.[needs proving]

There are different types of kiwifruit. The main types are hayward (the most common green kiwifruit), chico, saanichton 12, and golden kiwifruit. Golden kiwifruit is sweeter than normal green kiwifruit. Golden kiwifruit was invented by grafting and cross-pollinating different types of kiwifruit.

I LOVE Kiwis; as much as I love berries (any berries!), and I just think I love both the green and the golden ones equally although I know most people prefer the golden ones because it's sweeter and more fragrant?

How about you?
Are you the golden or the green kiwi fan? =)

Then guess what, last Saturday, I went with this group of good friends to Ipoh to attend a friend's wedding and we went up to Cameron before the wedding (will post on that and the food later).

I had to finish them pretty fast as they were ripe and turns bad really soon due to the humid climate upon descending Cameron Highlands....so, nothing for me to safekeep:p

Custard Apple!

Mummy gave me a little fruit from home the last time I was back in KL; we have this tree which bears this fruit; it's a unique fruit called custard apple (buah nona in Malay).
It can be found in most countries; although its origin was said to be of the West Indies and then to West America and Mexico. Then it was brought into Africa, India, the Philippines and Malaya in the early days. They call this the "ugly duckling" in the series of the genus of apples...hahaha....
The scientific name of this fruit is Annona reticulata L.
Not very attractive in appearance, the fruit is pretty small; 3 quarter to 6 and a half inches (8-16cm)in diameter and may appear heart-shaped, lopsided or irregular in shape.
Anyway, you can find out more about this here

And so, I waited patiently for this fruit to ripen and lo behold; after 2-3 days bringing it back here; the fruit starts to soften and ripe to age:)

This is a very nice and soft tasty fruit; lots of seeds by the way...but it's indeed like its name implies, soft as custard!
