Sweet (soup) for the tooth

Kei Tak Zek (translated as Really Can Eat in Cantonese; it's the name of this stall) is definitely no stranger to most Kepong residents or even KL folks as this was one of the most popular dessert stalls around since its establishment more than ten years ago.
What started out as a single dessert stall is today taking up two lots and also branches in KL and the most recent addition in 1 Utama new wing.
They have also expanded from serving plain old desserts and light snack bites/dim sum to ice blended snowies and even noodles, etc.

I used to remember the Sai Mai Lo (Snowies) when I first tried them out during my high school days and they offered 50% discount for schoolchildren in uniforms. For instance, if the Snowy costs RM4, for students in school uniforms, it is only RM2!:)

The hustle bustle and the huge crowd at the stall is a living proof of its popularity among the local residents and also tourists.

They have definitely made their name here and continue to dwell on the sweet tooth (teeth) of our fellow Malaysians.

It has been such a long time since my family and I paid them a visit but we were surprised their old menu is still maintained although prices have definitely gone up.
One of their signature dessert and also the popular choice among the patrons is this thick creamy soup made from peanut paste or also known as Fa Sang Wu in Cantonese.
This was my Mummy's all-time favourite and admittedly, she thinks that this place serves this best.

The soup here is definitely thicker and richer in texture and holds that long and lasting taste in your mouth when it touches the tip of the tongue.

For peanut or dessert lovers, this is one recommended dessert for your soul.

As for me, I always loved their waterchestnut and sweet corn dessert cooked in light and sweet broth of lightly battered eggs and beancurd sheets. Take note that I do not like beancurd sheet nor eggs in particular; but this is one that I like and it is really light and soothing although it is served hot and also the hot weather.

I personally recommend this dessert as it is rather unique and not something you can find common in other dessert stalls. In fact, until today, this is the only one I have tried and seen here.

As for the gentlemen, they went for the iced snowies due to the hot weather and Daddy, being a great fan of mango, he ordered this Mango Sai Mai Lo (Mango Snowy) priced at RM4 which came with huge chunks of mango and also ripe sago along with the thick mango puree.

Bro went for the Honeydew Snowy (also RM4) which came with honeydew balls and a milky base with toppings of shaved ice, sago and a red little cherry on the top.

Finally, one more order of the Red Bean Snowy (RM4) which was rather unique as they gave large sago and a mixture of the red beans with some peanuts atop and the shaved ice was dipped with sweet condensed milk.

It was a nice treat for the whole family and this is a great place for nice snacks and light food, not to mention desserts. However, due to the crowd, there may be constant noise and you may need to raise your voice a little when you speak to each other. Also, you will need to bear with the non-air-conditioned environment to sweat it out while you enjoy the dessert:)

  3. I love love love the Peanut one! It's my favourite! And also the Mango Sai Mai Lou! Cuz I love Mango! But sometimes, the mangoes served are a bit de sour. But, by golly, if the mangoes are sweet, damn yummy!

    Hmm... I wonder who the Red Bean Snowy was for....? ;)

  6. We used to visit this place for tong shui. I like their fang sang wu very much! But their outlet in Citrus Park somehow closed. So we haven't been to this place for quite some time...

  11. Kei Tek Sek doesn't mean Really Can Eat. The meaning is Remember/Be Sure To Eat. So that customer will remember them when they want to eat dessert or snacks.
