We decided to try out this restaurant located at the junction along Burmah Road and before you reach the Pulau Tikus market.
It has been some time since we noticed this restaurant and wanting to try out the food here but somehow, we always put off the idea and finally, we decided to go for it on the special day.
Parking was not an issue here as they have their own compound; it basically stands like a bungalow on its own.
(The pics below have been modified as I am actually trying out a new smoky effect:p)
The interior decoration was done per convention as in other fine dining restaurants which exudes the "romance-in-the-air" environment.
The lighting were dim and Spanish songs were played in the background.
I noticed this wine cellar and based on my knowledge of this restaurant, they are well-known for their extensive range of wine labels which was an approximate of over 250 types of wine. Interesting, and I always had this penchant for wine cellars despite my non-drinking style:)
We were soon served with our appetizers; in a very unique way.
This was the minced chicken fillets done in a special spicy sauce.
Tastewise,it was spicy (according to him as I don't take meat) but nothing extraordinary though.
A glass of water
Flame of a candle
Cheers
Next up was the salad/appetizer
Served tastefully in this wide plate with 3 different sections, I find the variety of the food rather interesting.
From left, this was actually tuna fish paste with sweet sauce. It had a strong fishy smell but at the same time, it tasted pleasant and had that melt-in-the-mouth taste.
This is just salad with thousand island dressing.
And this was Thai glass noodle with a piece of crab fillet atop it.
The crab fillet was really nice; and the crab meat was really fresh and tasted good.
Thumbs up for this:)
The soup for the day was the mushroom soup which also tasted nice according to him as it was not too overwhelming in taste and not too creamy for his liking as well.
I ordered the Black Cod Fish (although I had a hard time deciding between salmon and cod, I settled for the cod:)
It was seared Black Cod with cream braised mushrooms and watercress sauce.
The cod fish fillet was slightly overcooked and the texture was a little harder than usual. I was tad a bit disappointed as I have always loved the smooth texture of cod fish fillet. It was never an easy task to preserve that smoothness of the fish texture and at the same time, ensuring that it's cooked to perfection.
The fish was slightly oily as well; but partly due to its own fish fat; which contains the good fatty acids.
He ordered the Pan fried salmon and he specified for the sauce to be served separately. They made a mistake when they first served but before we said anything, they took it away and hence, his main actually arrived minutes after mine.
He ordered this so that I can have both my cod and salmon at the same time..since I was indecisive. So sweet:) And the request to serve the sauce separately was due to the fact I can't really take creamy stuffs and sauces, and he wanted me to be able to taste the fish. I forgot to do the same for my own main though (slip of mind:( I usually request specifically whenever I order..however, I forgot this time)
The salmon fillet was also overcooked and it was rather bland as well.
Served with braised mushrooms as well, the salmon fillet was nothing to shout about; the sauce was only on the average.
Although the mains were slightly disappointing, I was still enticed by their other entrees'. The dessert came next; again in 3 different flavour sections.
As you can see from the pics, there's a spoon there with a scoop of ice-cream, chocolate mousse and sour cream.
A spoonful of sugar...erm, I mean Ice-cream:)
Chocolate mousse
Sour cream on a slice of orange
The total bill was about RM100+ for the 2 of us; one dinner set whilst I ordered the Ala carte:)
The environment was not bad whilst the food was on the average; perhaps it was not their best day. Worth a try and the service was definitely good as the staffs were pretty friendly and accommodating.
nice place.. looks cozy! food looks very fine too..
ReplyDeleteAlthough overcooked, the salmon still look scrumptious.
